To be considered a resident of Dennis Township, you must officially and legally reside within the township's boundaries. Falsification of a registration form will result in immediate removal from the league/activity with no money refunded. All recreation volunteer coaches and assistant coaches must be eighteen years of age or older. Anyone wishing to coach must complete the online concussion training course and submit the course completion certificate along with a background check form to the recreation department. Also suggested is that each volunteer coach become a National Youth Sports certified coach. The website for the online training program on concussion is: www.cdc.gov/concussion/HeadsUp/Training/HeadsUpConcussion.html The website for NYSCA certification is: www.nays.org/nyscaonlineclinics Be sure to select Dennis Twp Rec Dept as the Chapter Name. Please note that the concussion training is free but there is a twenty dollar fee for NYSCA training.

DT Athletic Associations (Baseball/Softball, Basketball, Football/Cheer, Hockey & Soccer)

Dennis Township is able to offer first class programs because of the partnership between the associations and the recreation department. The volunteers and staff working together is the reason the entire recreation program is one of the best in the county. As children age out of the various sports, a lot of parents that comprise the volunteer membership of the associations move on as well. It is important that new volunteers step up to take their place so that we can continue with the level of excellence that so many have worked to achieve. All association meetings are open to the public and are held at the rec center. If you would like to become involved or simply want info on the next meeting, please email kim@dennistwp.org

Lightning Detection System
Lightning image

The Township of Dennis has recently installed a Thorguard Lightning Prediction System at the Recreation Complex on Dennisville Road. The system is designed to predict a lightning strike within a defined geographical region. Once pre-established detection limits are reached, the system activates a series of horns and strobe lights to warn those in the park to seek shelter. Since this system is automated it can provide a warning even when there appears to be no evidence of lightning.

The system will be on alert during the hours of 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. When conditions for a lightning strike exist, the system will sound a 15 - second blast from the horn cluster and the strobe light will turn on. Anyone who hears the signal should immediately stop any outside activity and seek shelter. One danger has passed, the horns will activate an all-clear signal of three short 5 - second blasts and the strobe light will turn off.

*No system is one hundred percent accurate. Everyone should immediately seek shelter any time they believe lightning threatens them, even if a signal has not been sounded.

Things To remember
  • Bikes and motorized vehicles (including mopeds) are not permitted on the new fitness path at the Complex. In fact, all motor vehicles are only allowed in the designated parking areas.
  • Parking along Dennisville Road in front of the Complex is also not permitted. Vehicles parked in this area will be ticketed by the State Police.
  • Dogs must be leashed at all times when brought to any township facility. Owners are also required to pick up after their dog.
  • Anyone caught vandalizing or defacing township property, will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
